Alert Level 5: Emergency Safety Measures
A disaster is happening or imminent. Going to a shelter may already be dangerous. It is not always issued, so don't wait for it.
What to do now
- Take the safest action immediately: go to the highest floor or the room furthest from a slope.
- Only move outside if that is safer than staying.
- Japan's rule of thumb: evacuate by Level 4 (purple). Don't wait for Level 5.
