Alert Level 4: Evacuation Instruction

Everyone in the named danger area must evacuate now. Since 2021 there is no separate 避難勧告 (evacuation advisory); 避難指示 is the one to act on.

What to do now

  1. Evacuate now to a designated shelter or a safe place outside the danger area (a friend's house or a hotel counts).
  2. If it is already dangerous outside, move up to a higher floor.
  • Japan's rule of thumb: evacuate by Level 4 (purple). Don't wait for Level 5.
